"Shrek Forever After" Goes Out With A Bang

I thought Shrek The Third was a disaster. It lost everything that made the first two so magical. Well, I prayed that Shrek Forever After would redeem itself and it did. It felt like Shrek the Third never existed and I think Dreamworks really took that into consideration while making this film.

In this final chapter, Shrek is irritated with his family life and wants to go back to the good old days of being a scary Ogre. He meets Rumpelstiltskin and makes a deal with him to have one day to himself. Little does Shrek know that his deal with Rumpel has some serious consequences. The story is a bit darker than the earlier films, which I found refreshing. Once Shrek finds himself in his alternate universe, we see a side of him that's never seen in the other films. We see a stronger and sexier Fiona. She saves herself from the dragon's tower and is the leader of an Ogre army. Rumpel and his witches control Far Far Away, which gives the film a darker feel with the broken landscape of the once beautiful kingdom.

Of course there's plenty of comedy with Donkey and Puss in Boots. Puss in Boots steals the show in his new "larger than life" persona.

I recommend seeing this film in 3D because the visuals are spectacular. Fiona's eyes are so blue in certain scenes and you can see the texture of the fur on Donkey. The real 3D scene stealer is when Puss and Boots does his sad kitty face. It's amazing in 3D.

I'm sad to see Shrek go, but at least he went out with a bang.

  1. I completely agree. It was a great movie, and the way the third movie was just ignored flawlessly was perfect. Great movie all the way through.
