"Star Trek" Proves to be Quite Spock-ful

Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Here is my Star Trek history. I don't have one. I believe it was two years ago when my boyfriend and I were watching an old Star Trek film when he had to tell me who Spock was. A movie reviewer who had no clue about one of the most prominent figures in pop culture. Well, that's in the past and I'm full of Spock-ful knowledge as I like to call it.

If you are a true "Trek" fan then this movie will be absolutely perfect. It is also good for the newbies who want to know the history of Kirk, Spock, Scotty and all the others whose names I'm still learning.

I can see why Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 96% on the tomato meter. The special effects were solid and also did not dominate the entire film, the character development was substantial with background information and the acting did not come off as fake or too cheesy. It is very rare for a summer film to get good reviews.

I enjoyed it and it was nice to see a new cast in the roles that many know and love.

Still Curious about "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

Yes it is a good film. The visuals are amazing and the cinematography is breathtaking. The theme about aging is present throughout the film. Basically, it doesn't matter how we are born. We all end up in diapers and sometimes forget our lives. What matters is how we live each day.

So, I still can't figure out what made this film such a big deal. The theme is nothing different than what most movies present to us everyday. Live life to the fullest. The acting was good, but nothing amazing. I'm assuming the idea of living life backwards is the appeal, but I'm not that convinced. Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is born as an old man. His body is old, but his mind is young. So everything he experiences makes him seem innocent and new to the world. Other people can't understand him. As he gets younger, life gets harder as it does for older people today. He deals with the deaths of loved ones and can't remember parts of his life.

So what is the appeal? I don't think it's living life backwards. I think it's simply embracing the life we are given and dealing with what life throws in our way. Knowing that living life forward is not that different from living life backwards. We will need help as we get older. We will all see loved ones die. But at least, we can see our children grow and grow old with someone we love.

No Howls for "Wolverine"

The first blockbuster of the summer turned out to be "just okay." Most films that come out at the beginning of May usually set the direction for the summer movies, but Wolverine failed to bring one important aspect to the screen that everyone expects.

Good Special Effects.

The effects were cheesy and downright fake looking in most of the film. It's pretty bad when Wolverine's claws don't even match up with his hands in the bathroom scene.

Aside from the special effects, I did enjoy that characters. I liked seeing the mutants that were never introducted in the X-Men Series. Gambit, Deadpool and The Blob are just a few that are featured in the film. Also, we see some of the younger mutants like Cyclops before they reach their full potential. The film does follow most of the comic book, which will make most fans happy.

Overall, it's still a fun film and the characters make the movie. Just hold your breath when you see a cheesy special effect.

Thoughts on "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and "Disney Nature: Earth"

On my cruise, I had the chance to see Hannah Montana: The Movie and Disney Nature: Earth.

Of course kids and teens alike will love seeing Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana on the big screen. The movie did not compare to the TV series. There is more Miley and Billy Ray than the rest of the cast. The message of the film is for Miley to find herself outside of the Hannah Montana world. She does find herself, but it does not last. So what is the real message? Find your true self and then go back pretending to be someone your not. I disagree with the message this film is giving to kids and young adults.

Moving on to a more gripping movie, Disney Nature: Earth follows the lives of polar bears, elephants, birds, whales and many other living creatures on earth. The documentary is narrated by James Earl Jones and the cinematography is amazing. What I appreciated about this film is that it did not throw "save the earth now" or "global-warming" into the audience's face. It showed the daily lives of animals and how the circle of life effects them all. It is sad, but it is the reality we live in. Check out this film if you enjoy documentaries and learning about wildlife.

New Trailer for Disney's "The Princess and the Frog"

Bare with me. I just returned from a Disney cruise so I'm in the Disney mood. I'm excited about this film because this is Walt Disney at his best. Also the first animated African American princess will make her appearance in this film. We have to wait until the holiday season for this one.

The Summer Blockbuster Season Is Finally Here!

Finally! It's my favorite time of the year. I love the summer movie season because there is ALWAYS a fun movie that comes out every weekend. I will not have a review on Wolverine this weekend because I am going on a cruise for the week. So leave me a post and let me know what you would like for me to review when I return.
